I wrote the seller a few days ago to ask a question about the stench in the products I received but have received no response. The three baskets are nicely woven and are made in a lovely oval shape but unfortunately all 3 are permeated with an unusually strong stench of burning smoke, like burning rubber, not burning leaves. I have done everything possible to air them out in the fresh air to no avail. Not going to be possible to use these for serving food. Sadly, because of the smoke stench, I cannot recommend the product or the service of this particular seller who did not respond to my internal private question.These are lovely baskets. I love the unique oval shape, and the quality is good - they're lightweight but sturdy, with no sharp fibers. They're a bit smaller and shallower than I expected, but this makes them quite versatile. They'd be easy to hang on the wall, and are also functional as actual baskets. They work well as valet trays, on a dresser or entryway table. You could also put fruit in them or use them as a centerpiece - the size of at least one in the pack is sure to fit your needs.My one complaint with this set is that they have an odd chemical smell. I'm sure it'll off-gas in a day or so, but it's a little off-putting when you first open them.I'm indifferent to the bamboo straws - they're not something I'd ever use.All in all, though, I'm pleased with the baskets themselves.The basket tray is great, the set of 4 placemats are not. The tray is exactly as pictured and very well made. It’s the perfect medium/warm color and holds all of my vanity items nicely. The placemats, on the other hand, are small and don’t match the tray. They are a lot paler. Not sure why they were even included. They also have a bad smell. The basket is 5 stars, the placemats are 3…hence the 4 stars for this review.Nice, attractive and well made basket tray. The sides are a bit higher than most trays, making this extremely versatile. Functional and decorative.I was looking for smaller, low profile baskets for our laundry room closet and these are perfect! They come in a small, medium, large size so can easily be stacked nicely for storage.They do have a very powerful scent to them upon opening, but after letting them air outside for the afternoon the smell is gone.There are a few bamboo sticks included, not sure what to do with them or what to use them for.Overall, the baskets are just what I needed for our shelving!These baskets are advertised to hold bread, etc. they are the size of my hand. They would barely work as a coaster. I’m sure I will find some use for them but totally not worth the price. I would also agree with other customers on here that have mentioned the horrible burnt smell, I can’t even keep these in my house they smell so bad.
