I've been doing the low carb thing for years now... And occasionally I'll still get a hankerin' for bread. Unfortunately, most of the bread-like things that are acceptable on a low-carb diet aren't very tasty. I'm happy to say that's not the case with the Great Low Carb Bread Co.This Plain bread tasts just like bread. It isn't some fluffy, white Wonder Bread... Visually - it looks more like one of the generic, brown, "wheat" breads you'll see on grocery store shelves. It's tan in color, and you can see bits of fiber in the bread. As far as the texture and taste go - it's more like the "artisan" bread you can get at most grocery stores. It's fairly crusty; and it's got a nice, chewy texture. And it tastes basically like plain/wheat bread. It doesn't taste especially nutty or grainy. It's got a nice, neutral, slightly-sweet taste. It makes a great sandwich. It also behaves just like you'd expect bread to in the toaster or on the griddle... Makes perfectly good toast, grilled cheese sandwiches, and french toast. Honestly, if I didn't know better, I'd never guess it was low-carb.You'll definitely want to freeze your bread as soon as it arrives - this stuff doesn't keep long when it's left at room temperature. Also, check out the website - http://www.greatlowcarb.com/It's a little dated, and the store section is somewhat clunky to navigate... But they've got a wide selection of baked goods there: breads, bagels, buns, and rolls. And if you're buying larger quantities, it gets cheaper.I am very very fond of this bread and will very likely purchase it again! The bread is very soft with a delicate crumb, just like "normal" white breads. It's a dense bread, but not doughy. Keep in mind the slices themselves are pretty small (4" across, maybe?) and the flavor of the plain bread is more reminiscent of sourdough than plain white bread, but these are minor nitpicks. They make for wonderful toast and grilled cheese sandwiches. The bread it fairly expensive for what you get (as mentioned previously, the slices are fairly small) so I will put this on the "sometimes" list. It's not a staple for me, but if I had the budget, it would be. Now if I could only find some low-carb marmalade!I gave this three stars because it is what it claims to be but it just does not work for me. It arrived OK and I immediately put it into the freezer. I did have high hopes for this product. The slices seem under sized. The texture is no where near actual bread, it is very dense and extremely chewy. It also does not toast well. Since I'm not a hard core Ketoer so I think I will stick to a good whole wheat bun/bread for those times I need one. Just in moderation. This bread is quite good if you toast it, which I am fine with. We just keep it in the freezer and toast it whenever we want some. Sadly, the shipping costs are exorbitant, so I can’t afford to get it very often. ?However, if you are on a low-carb diet for any reason, I can tell you that this bread did not cause my sugar to go up at ALL, so it really IS carb free, (or very close to it.)Good product if you can afford the shipping. ??I was disappointed when the bread was delivered. It is about half the size of a loaf of bread that you would get from the store. I don't think this bread is worth the $8 and shipping that I paid. The bread taste pretty good. I made a sandwich with mine, and it was good. The bread is a little chewy, but not too bad. If this bread came in a full loaf, or was cheaper I would buy more, but for a little as you get I don't think it is worth it unless you can afford it.I mean if you are just *REALLY* dying for some bread then I would suggest these. But honestly, I don't think it tastes that good at all. As far as taste, I still prefer my lettuce wraps, or microwave coconut bread. Smells bad and has an aftertaste that is quite bothersome. However, it's decent when toasted. It's fair for a grilled cheese. I used it for a ham sandwich untoasted and hated it.Not bad at all for a low carb bread. I had it toasted with some butter. Unfortunately the shipping cost is too expensive, almost double the price of the bread, so I won't buy it again or maybe i'll order it as a rare treat. I just saw they marked the bread with free shipping but the shipping cost is included in the price, so not so free after all!If eaten untoasted in a ham n cheese sandwich, I found the bread too chewy and odd. But toast these puppies and you are golden! Loved them in grilled cheese or with avocado or egg on top. Even the kids accept these toasts. However, these are expensive, so I save every slice in the freezer for me and give my kids the regular bread at a quarter of the price.
