Birch & Meadow Pastry Flour is a must have ingredient when you are making a flaky baked good. The 1.5lb plastic jar holds a fluffy and light white colored flour. This was the first time that I worked with flour packaged in a plastic jar as I am used to flour in paper bags. I soon realized why it is more ideal for flour to be in paper bags. Measuring the flour for the recipes I used it in required a little more coordination. Scooping was easy but leveling was not as effortless. It makes sense to store the flour in a plastic jar when mailing and storage to protect the product but measuring is an issue. Pastry flour has a low protein content making it ideal for biscuits, pie crusts, pastries, and flaky baked goods. I used the flour to make buttermilk biscuits. The flour was easy to mix and helped me create the most delicious biscuits that were tender, light, and flaky. My family was so impressed with the finished results that I ended up making another batch the next day. The ingredients for this flour is wheat flour enriched (wheat flour, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, and folic acid). There are 22 servings per container with each 3 tablespoon serving containing 110 Calories, 0g Total Fat, 23g Total Carbohydrate, 2g Protein, and 2mg Iron. The product that I received has a best by date of 23 months from the date that I received it. I am really pleased with the delicious results that I was able to achieve with the pastry flour and definitely plan to add another order to my Amazon cart.
