Easy to get bread out and back inThis is the ideal bread box for artisan sourdough bread.Pros:1) it's very lightweight and since it's collapsible, you can really reduce the counter space.2) it's clear so you can see what's inside easily and keep an eye on the state of your bread.3) the square shape let's you put things on top of it in case you aren't opening it up much.4) the adjustable air openings let you control how much air is getting in. Perfect for sourdough which you may want different levels of air depending on the humidity to preserve the crust. (Airtight environments cause the crust to get soft and may encourage mold when it's really hot and humid) I think the air seal is good because I noticed my crust got soft after having it on the closed position. Whereas it never got soft in plastic wrap.5) the minimalist style looks good regardless of decor.6) it comes with it's own cutting board! The small white plastic square you see under their bread. Very convenient as you can just keep it sitting under your bread and won't feel like you need to wash it often. This was an added bonus I didn't expect and eliminated the annoyance of dealing with getting out the cutting board each time I wanted bread.7) I could easily store my small artisan loaf cut in half within a single box. It expands to store much more.Cons:1) it's not really a permanent fixture where you can permanently stack items on top of it.2) the plastic seems a little fragile. I wouldn't put anything too heavy on it.3) it might not be as great for traditional sandwich loaves that are really long that you buy in the grocery store. It may be a little annoying having to pull it apart for that each time instead of using one of the ones with a door. Edit 9/29/21: in fact I find myself a little annoyed after using it for a number of months having to pull it apart because it's a little awkward. I've been considering getting a traditional bread bin but I don't because the small footprint and movability is nice.---I wanted a bread box for my sourdough bread and I couldn't ask for more. Yes a fancy expensive bread box may look a little nicer, but you'd be missing out on the many benefits of this clear, expandable box.Edit 9/29/19: the white plastic thing that controls airflow has broken a bit so it's no longer snug. I think I've had this a few months. It's still useable but just wanted to mention it's a bit fragile.I've only had this little gem for about a week. I make homemade sourdough bread which dries out within a couple of days (no preservatives). However this last loaf has lasted 4 days and still soft. Pretty impressive!I will 100% purchase another one of these if I find I need another. The cutting board is a wonderful touch, so I don’t have to dirty more dishes AND it keeps the crumbs maintained. The cutting board is also the perfect size for my breadmaker breads. I feel like it does maintain freshness as well.I don't have to freeze half a loaf. Doesn't take up much room on the counter top. As you use slices you reduce the size of the container. This is a fine solution if you are going to hand-wash only (despite manufacturer stating it is dishwasher-safe) and if you are not concerned about gnats or other insects.I bake bread twice/week on average, and between each loaf I toss this into the dishwasher (top shelf!) to be sure it's completely clean and no mold spores, etc are lying in wait for the new loaf. This has been fine - no scratches or other marks have appeared - but the heat from the hot water seems to have affected the shape of the box, as it seems to have become ever-so-slightly deformed. It no longer slides in/out easily, but requires a quite firm push and the use of a specific angle in order to shimmy the two pieces together or pull them apart. It's become quite tedious. It's not unlike playing an accordion, without the music. As far as gnats, I leave my windows open for fresh air and do not have screens (they are disallowed in my building). A few gnats or small bugs will make their way into my home some days, and they invariably find bread quite attractive. It seems that if I keep the vent in the "closed" position, they are too dull-witted to find their way in, but if it is at all "open" (with even just one tantalizing hole exposed), I'll come to slice a piece of bread and find a little gnat triumphantly buzzing about inside. This is less than highly appetizing.I've been debating what to do with it - it's technically still usable, and I would be loath to throw it out as that would be quite wasteful, but I'm also becoming increasingly frustrated with how difficult it's becoming to open and re-close. I know one of these days, while attempting to pry the two halves apart, I am going to wind up accidentally flinging them across the room as they suddenly give way. I ask that you please stand back at least 6 feet, both for social-distancing purposes as well as for unplanned bread box throwing.Other than being unpleasant to use and not gnat-proof unless you elect to not use one of its primary features, it looks nice, doesn't take up a lot of space, and does indeed hold bread.Hand wash only!I thought this was a cute little bread box, it doesn't take much space on the counter due to the small size wich is perfect for my small bread machine loafs, but during summer we get fruit flies and this box let them right in, even on the "closed" setting. The flies are attracted by the bread and can easily get inside and this is kind of a big downer for me, seeing all the flies gathered inside the box, walking all over the bread. If I would've known I wouldn't have purchased this item.It does works great for the cold period of the year, so I might just find another system (fabric bred bag maybe?) for summer time.Brilliant. Keeps my loaf in the fridge from drying out once open and the bread keeps for ages.I bought this last July. It is great at holding bread and keeping it fresh. Like other reviewers found, you need to have a fully cooked loaf before you poop it inside. My previous review was 5* but I've since knocked it back. Even though it says that it is dishwasher safe, twice weekly washes in the dw have resulted in discoloring of the plastic and cracks forming where the ventilation holes are.As I said it is a great unit, but I'm disappointed that although I followed care instructions, it hasn't held up.Great item. Keeps the bread as fresh as can be and takes up minimum amount of space in the kitchen counter.I wanted something to keep my homemade bread fresh and was tired of using plastic bags (that's a lot of wasted plastic) and a traditional bread bin just takes up to much space on the counter. This seemed to fit the bill and it has worked out very well. Keeps my loaves nice and fresh. I haven't put them in there warm - I always cool them completely before putting in - so I can't comment on how well it does that, but cooled loaves do well. I was also worried that my loaves would be too tall for it, but they fit with extra space (the container is about 61/2" high). I also love that it's see-through so I can see at a glance how much bread is left and plan when I have to make more.
