This was pretty darn easy! I am basically relearning what little I ever knew about crochet and for some reason I just really wanted to add a pom pom to a couple hats I've made. I don't have any local friends or co-workers who know how to do this--and I don't even have a local yarn shop that I can find--so basically any new skill is coming from a book or youtube.I bought this set on a whim and gave it a try with some leftover yarn. The directons were fairly straightforward, but for someone like me who had never tried other devices or methods it was a little bit vague as to where to slip the yard for the final tie down. Despite that I muddled through with my first pom pom and it was reasonably decent.Being a visual person (see one, do one) I next found a youtube video to watch before my second attempt. The second one was a piece of cake and looks really nice. Once I saw the video the written directions made perfect sense--I was just hampered by having literally done nothing like this before. And, being a bit backwards, I then looked up the traditional cardboard method. I can see that being an advantage for a special-sized pom pom, but the idea of winding through that hole over and over (and over and over) again looks quite tedious. Suffice to say, the Bates technique video was about 4 minutes, the cardboard one about 10. MUCH easier in my estimation to quickly wrap 2 halfs and combine.(just plug in 'susan bates pom pom instructions').I will add my typical Amazon vendor commentary--this product is sold by an Amazon vendor, not Amazon itself. This means the seller of any individual product may vary and it is worth your time to do your due diligence regarding vendor (not product) feedback. If you are a Prime member this may mean the seller has their stock located off the Amazon premises and there could be shipping fees. If there is Prime shipping associated, then that means the vendor is keeping their stock in the Amazon warehouse system. Also, vendors can change daily due to inventory and different vendors have different prices--the current price as of my review is not the same as what I paid. Check carefully and make sure the item is a good value for you.In any case, I found this product to be very user friendly and quite a great deal of fun. A nice addition to my 'tool' collection. Highly Recommended!JTGOnce you get the hang of how everything fits together, it goes pretty good. I needed the Pom Pom for the top of a hat that I made. This product is a life saver! I make crochet "bookworm" bookmarks which have a pom pom at the end of their tail. I used to make the pom poms on my own using two pens strapped together which did work but was awkward and still ended up needing much trimming to make a ball. What a pain! Then I tried the Clover brand Pom Pom maker and that one made decent pom poms but each one was very time consuming and just didn't work for me. I bought this one as a last resort not really expecting it to be any better. Well I did have trouble at the beginning, I have arthritis in my hands and holding the two half moons together to wrap the yarn was very difficult and I kept dropping them. Then I got the bright idea to use a tiny hair rubber band (you can find these even at the Dollar Store or even Amazon! and you can a few hundred for a dollar or two) to hold the two pieces together until I got the yarn wrapped around a couple times and then I just snip the rubber band. Works fast and easy and the pom poms look terrific! I'm glad I took a chance on these!First, to let you know, I tried out the donut looking type of Pom Pom makers and it was infuriating trying to insert the yarn into the hole of the donut over and over. Not a quick or pleasant way to do it. Then I tried the old fashioned cardboard way and that didn't work too well either. I finally decided to try this type and boy do I wish I used it from the beginning. This Pom Pom maker was so much easier in that you just wrap the yarn around the two matching half moon shapes (much easier than trying to thread it each time through a hole), interlock the bottoms of the half moons (it takes a little dexterity but it was certainly manageable), cut the yarn and then wrap it with a double piece of yarn to knot and you have a great pom pom. To ensure that each side of the half moon matches, the directions recommend that you count the wraps around the half moons. Of course this would be the case if you wanted to make a bunch of the same size pom poms. I made 16 all together and they turned out very nicely. I had to do a little trimming with each but that was not difficult at all. What is even better is that you get four sizes in the same package. The next time I have a project that includes making Pom Poms, I'm all set.I have never used anything other than cardboard circles for making pom-poms before. So i must say using easy wrap pom-pom maker is a lot... well easier :) it's more pleasant and don't leave me avoiding making them. I found instructions easy to understand too. I haven't tried to use the smallest size yet. And actually i didn't think i would ever use the second small one - but i did and it worked better than the bigger once... As for results... I wouldn't say they much better than ones got by using cardboard circles... but then again for me results were never an issue - they were good enough without this tool... it was the process that i somewhat dreaded. So all in all i would say it is a good buy. You get FOUR different size for the price of 1 or 2 in different brands. I also have a feeling that results would improve with continues use. These work well when you can figure out how they work. There really is no description as how to use them or no pictures. Maybe everyone else but me knows how to use them! I did get them to work once and I made 2 pompoms but I have used them in a while and I can't remember what I did so if I figure it out again I'm goin to write it down. They get a 4 for no instruction or pictures. Maybe I can find a youtube vid!Ideal for making pompoms for hats and baby clothes. Had one years ago and was pleased to find they were still being made. Much better than trying to cut out circles of cardboard and then getting a hole in the centre of them large enough to take the wool. I am sure it will be well used.Stated that delivery would be a long time, but it actually arrived much earlier than expected, quick and easy to make pom poms, love the different sizes, only trouble is its a bit tricky connecting pieces together before cutting, pulling the pieces apart seems very fragile and feel they will break, but they don't, but very happy with purchase, making lots of glittery pom poms for fund raising for local pre school,Have used this style of pompom maker for many years. So pleased to find replacements for my old ones that are showing their age. Easy to use for children, the elderly and those with special needsI'd never heard of a pompom maker till I saw one on a TV crafting programme( good old Kirsty) and just had to give it a go! I went for this one due to price and variety of sizes and am very pleased that I did.easy to use the best pom pom maker I have used and the easiest. Instructions good and clear and build quality nice
